Aromatherapy
as an Ancient Art |
Herbs
have been used from antiquity and were the first
medicine used by man: while allopathic medicine
is only about 500 years old.
The use of plants for healing purposes extends
back to ancient religious texts from both India
and China . The Greeks and Roman used essential
oils for medical and aesthetic purposes while
it was the Egyptians more than 5000 years ago
who turned the use of essential oils into a way
of life (embalming) .
Mentioned in the Bible , both Frankincense and
Myrrh are essential oils and they were considered
to be more precious than Gold.
Due to the anti viral and anti bacterial properties
of essential oils even robbers back in the time
of the Plague covered their bodies with essential
oils to prevent themselves from contracting disease.

Aromatherapy
as a Modern Science |
The Fragrant Pharmacy |
The story of Aromatherapy
as a formal science began in 1937 when the French
chemist Renee Gattefoffe, while working in his
lab he severally burned his hand. To relieve his
pain he plunged his hand into the closest liquid
available, lavender oil. To his amazement his
hand return to its normal state without the painful
stages of blistering and scarring. As a result,
he dedicated his life to studying the use of essential
oils for their medicinal purposes and he passed
knowledge onto us. We can now safely and inexpensively
use Aromatherapy oils as NATURAL:
- Anti-depressants
- Sedatives and Relaxants
- Stimulants
- Aphrodisiacs
- Expectorants
- Antiseptics
- Anti-inflammatories
- Anti-spasmodics
- Detoxifiers
- Analgesics(Pain Relievers)
- ...and the list goes on.
It is my sincere hope that you
continue to pursue the wonderful world of Aromatherapy
and enjoy the experience of nurturing your Mind,
Body and Spirit with one of God's greatest gifts
to mankind! |
