Borders and Binding Class

What Do I Bring To Class?

Your sewing machine with your usual notions, thread, etc.

Edge-joining presser foot or stitch-in-ditch presser foot that fits your machine

A fabric marking pen or pencil

A short, narrow ruler (6-12 inches x ½-2 inches) that will allow you to mark ¼ inch from the edge of your quilt

A ruler that has a 45-degree line marked on it—you can do this yourself on any ruler that is at least 3 inches wide.

An already-quilted piece that measures AT LEAST 10 x 20 inches but no larger than 24 x 36 inches.  Please don’t bring anything much larger, as it will take too long for you to bind the entire thing.

Enough 2 ½-inch strips to wrap around the perimeter of your quilt PLUS about 24 inches of extra binding.  For example, if your quilt measures 12 x 24, then you need 12 (2) + 24(2) PLUS 24 inches of strips, which is 96 inches of strips.  If your fabric measures 42 inches wide (WOF), then that means you need 96/42 = 2.3 strips.  So you should bring 3 strips WOF that are 2 ½ inches wide for a 96-inch perimeter.

  Wonder clips (at least 50)

Hand-sewing needle, thimble, coordinating thread, and straight pins.  Thread conditioner/beeswax would also be a nice thing to have but it’s not crucial.

  A beverage and some snacks!
